Yo Yo Honey “Groove On” (Soulpersona “All Night Long” Remix) The Background…
A few weeks ago I recieved an email from Steve Ripley at Soulfood who asked me to remix this song. I was slightly apprehensive as I owned the original 12” when it was originally released in 1992, and it was an instant favorite of mine… So fast forward 20 years and there’s me sat by my keyboard wondering how i’m going to attack and rework this classic whilst retaining it’s original goodness… Whilst listening to the vocal on it’s own, with a cup of tea and a fat zoot I instantly started humming the legendery Rick James bassline to the Mary Jane Girls classic “All Night Long” and then the track created it’self from then on (complete with the sexy synth lines and tremelo Rhodes swirls)… Hopefully i’ve done this official remix justice for the Re Release of Yo Yo Honey’s 1992 album “Voodo Soul” coming the second week of October.
